My son is turning 6 this week and I'm realising something is going on with him but I'm not sure what is causing it and how to help me. If anyone can help in any way I would greatly appreciate it.

He is a genius. Crazy memory. Ahead of his class in all areas.

He is a picky eater. Only eats a handful of foods and won't try any new things. And when he does eat he complains it hurts his stomach.

He is sensory. Definitely shows signs of sensory behaviour. Teacher has not said anything.

He has small poop accidents in his underwear and then will either hide in his room and wait for me to find him. Where he will be trying to clean himself by wiping it on the wall or bed linen shock

He will also have small wet accidents in his underwear where he will tell me that he didn't feel it coming. He doesn't have a strong flow of pee like my others son. Goes downwards not up like a rainbow shape.

He is on jersey care united health care and I know need to get him OT services but can't seem to figure out how to get him covered. I called a Lakewood agency and they said they don't accept that insurance. Help!

Do I take him to a gastroenterologist or urologist??

Another thing is that I work full time. Crazy long hours so I don't have time to take him to many specialists and want to make sure it's right.

Please please guide me and figure out how I can help him. All suggestions welcome.

I can only offer guidance in regard to his bathroom issues. Chop urology ( they have an outpatient center about an hour away in north jersey) is very knowledgeable and helpful. Pee and poop accidents are generally related and urology should definitely be your first stop. Good luck!

does your son drink enough? sounds like he doesn't. the poop may be related to constipation, which may be linked to lack of liquid, which would also explain the weak stream of urine. my kids all had regular poop accidents for some time, and it was all constipations related. in two out of three cases, it had to do with dehydration on a regular basis. my kids also have sensory issues. in the case of one kid, the dehydration likely had to do with lack of recognition of the sensation of thirst. I had this issue as a kid myself. I also was incredibly picky with foods, since I was sensitive to many textures. dehydration can also lead to UTIs, which two of my kids have had.

what color is your son's urine? if it's noticeably yellow, have him drink more. try to make the drink water. work on getting him to drink on a set schedule while working on getting him OT. check your insurance's website for a provider directory, you should be able to find someone that way. it wouldn't hurt to take him to a urologist as well. since your son is obviously embarrassed by this problem, please make sure the urologist you take him to has a kid-friendly bedside manner. also, six should be big enough to clean himself after an accident. talk to him about it when he's not hiding from you. buy him wipes, keep them in a set place in the bathroom. tell him exactly how to wipe and what to do with his soiled underwear. assure him that you will NOT yell at him or blame him for it, that you understand that he does not do this on purpose, and that you will actually be PROUD of him for cleaning himself. you may want to buy a hand mirror for him to check his bottom when cleaning himself, accidents often reach odd areas.

The bolded is a constellation of symptoms that would be pushing me to have him evaluated by a developmental pediatrician or psychologist.

Sensory issues and trauma, the chicken or the egg:

http://www.eti.training/single.....ation

Peeing and pooping after being trained is also a red flag.

I know no one wants to hear this possibility. But getting an evaluation is better than not giving this possibility any credibility. Often, adult victims report that the worst damage was not the abuse itself, but rather their parents not noticing or reacting appropriately.

Maybe many things.
It can be IBS, Pandas, OCD. He for sure needs OT according to the description you're giving me. You can write a letter to the DOE for an eval. Its definitely not the typical thing to do for a six year old. It may be anxiety OCD of not using the toilet. It maybe for attention. You have to get him eval.

The Department of Ed gives five evals automatically
Psychological, Educational, OT, PT, SPL (speech).
Evaluate him to make sure its not a muscle issue or anxiety. OT combats many issues. Anxiety, sensory, low muscle tone. Its worth a try.
