For MM I want to give/make a surprise cake. You know the cake where you make a hole in the center and put m and m's or something? That cake. Is it considered two brachos or are you supposed to give two people, one bracha? I always forget .
Also, if I can't find lentils, what do you think about putting mixed nuts, raisins, and chocolate chips in the center?
Revised question further down..

Two foods, not necessarily two brachos. Sounds fine as long as they are separate.

You don't need two brachos for mishloch manos you need two types of food. So a cake and a cookie would work. Not sure if the suprise cake is considred two types of food. My bet is on no but you can always aylor

Is the cake baked with the food hidden inside or is it like a bundt cake with food placed into the hole before you wrap it for MM?

Put mini wrapped chocolates inside and then it will definitely be a separate food and bracha.

All you need is to give one person two foods. Doesn't need to be two brachos.

I would ask my rabbi if that's considered two separate foods. I would think not- seems like one food.
To be safe, you can give one person a totally acceptable mishloach manos (cake and an apple or something), and give everyone else the surprise cake.

If your putting something wrapped inside, just give a warning, so the unwary don't end up with a mouthful of foil.

the m&m is so obviously different from the cake & not baked together so in real life you would actually have to make 2 brochos of mezonos & shehakol
FUN idea !!! [maybe I'll even surprise myself for my birthday]

I decided to do an open candy and a closed one on the side or something. I can't find chocolate lentils, so which do you think is better, chocolate covered peanuts (yes, I understand about warning thank you and it's a chocolate cake), winkies, or sugar coated gumdrops? I spoke to a friend and she said if I give her one, she wants a milichig one with rocklets (similar to m&m's ). TIA

I think two batches came abt as a safe gaurd that ppl wouldn't accidentally give two of the same thing (like two cookies) and think it's OK. As far as I learned you can. Give a candy and a cola, both shakol and perfectly acceptable.
I never knew you could give two meats... Is that like, I can give a rib and a steak?

It's a common mistake that many were taught in error.
