as a native philadelphian, I couldn't resist.

btw, I think that line is on 2 tapes but slightly different. The one quoted is on wheres zaidy (when he ends up in Bangkok, Thailand). They were selling raffle tickets.
And on the tape of the flood I think the school name started V'Haer Libeinu.

anyone can clarify!! Its been a while...

And as a native Wilkes-Barrean, I concur. There was a real devastating flood in 1972.

As far as quoting lines goes, Mr. Osbourne's speech from the same tape is classic "Hello. My name is Mr. Osbourne. I'm an official from the housing department of New York City. . ."
all the time!

and "I told you Wednesday night isn't a good night for a bath"

How could I forget - from the pesach one - "Sarah Mattah, get the shmatta...." inevitably sung on top of someone's lungs when the pesach boxes make their way down from the attic.

Actually my mother wrote that :-)

Yocheved (Sorscher) Reich, on R' Yitzy Erps's Yanky and Pesach tape.

Sanity has gone out of season around here!

Great aunt fifi is only 99...a real youngster!

And when you almost choked on a kosher pickle at the ...luncheon, that was pretty funny too!

Always happy to help before an election!

Everybody gave a squirt--I soaked up my undershirt! (DS' favorite)

I said I was I'm sorry!

Your statement had so much wit in it, you can say you are an it-wit

Why should we tel aviv? why does he have to know?

Whoa, Heshy and Manny are tearing down the city??

"We won't crash if you pay cash."

I don't remember the exact quotes but when Mister Blister is mourning his pencil factory and talking about "I'm a man of means, you know, and that means I means what I say" or something like that

I'm the mayor, yes the mayor, of seven million souls--he's the mayor, yes the mayor, of ten million potholes!

LOVE THEM ALL!!
I am waiting patiently for my kids to grow up just a little to enjoy the story tapes. I can't wait to listen to them again.

"In russia they have cars with three wheels...and one of them is the steering wheel!!"

LOL Childhood memories.

Every time I use paprika in the kitchen (quite frequently!), we all break into song: I am from Africa, and I sell paprika when I go visit the city of Prague!

(For a period of time my daughter actually thought that paprika was called "Prague.")

Though now when I listen to them I find myself cringing at a lot of the un-PCness...

The Shmuel Kunda tapes came out after most of my kids were already older, but I'd heard a few of them but wasn't totally familiar with them until for the past 3 years our local BY elementary school performed one as a play each year. One year was the seltzer factory one and this year was Anshei Kartoffel with the Mayor and the bar mitzvah. I don't remember which one was the other one. But I enjoyed them very much, even performed by 8th graders.

"Our grandparents came to this land. "
Determined to cling to every last thing that they were so carefully taught.
Reminds me of my grandparents.

All the city workers get their jobs done. . . then I come around and take the credit!"
