I don't feel the need to beat her. But she didn't come back and explain from where she takes this method, which is unusual and cruel.

5*moM is right. If was was the OP I wouldn't be coming back.
Drs do say that babies who reach certain milestones should sleep through the night - maybe the question is how long is a night? Some babies do it more easily then others. (tell that to my 1 year old who at 5 months slept 10 hours straight and now barely sleeps 3)
