When to frost cupcakes for mm

I'm making cupcakes with pillsbury frosting on top for m"m. I'm making the cupcakes now and was planning to frost them and then package them (gable cardboard boxes), but then I realized that they may not stay fresh... any opinions about the best way to frost/store them? Should I just wait till Motzaei Shabbos to frost them and refrigerate/freeze them until then? And if yes, is refrigerator or freezer better?
