I have asthma/allergies and am sensitive to cleaning products. Can anyone recommend a homemade all purpose cleaner? Preferably one without any scents or essential oils, as everything seems to set off my asthma/allergies - the more basic the better.
Thanks!

This is my recipe for glass cleaner, which is good for many hard surfaces:
1 oz ammonia
4 oz rubbing alcohol
1 drop dishwashing liquid
Fill container to 32 oz with water

1 part vinegar to 1 part water. When I was getting rashes from everything I used vinegar. Sometimes I just used straight up vinegar in a spray vinegar.
You can use it on most surfaces, even wood, but not granite.

I do similar to this. I use:
16 oz. 92% alcohol
16 oz. water
a few drops blue Dawn dishwashing soap
Mix well.
It is great for windows, counters, stainless steel. No streaks.

Why don't you try Basic H from Shaklee? A lot of people with asthma /allergies use it. It's a non-toxic, unscented concentrated cleaning solution that lasts forever. You put a few drops into different spritzer bottles which you fill up with water-one for glass cleaner, for all-purpose cleaner and for heavier degreaser. It's great for washing wood floors too.

Also - for floors I use a full-size Shark steam cleaner. The handheld Shark is great for deep cleaning kitchen appliances, bathroom tile, etc.

Thanks, ra mom. Just curious why blue dawn? Does it have something in it that free and clear palmolive doesn't have?

It just works really well, better than any other dish soaps I've tried.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I will definitely try some of these.
We used to have a steam cleaner for the floors, but it broke. We really should get a new one.

Is this for granite? And can I use 99% alcohol which is what I found in the store?

Yes, for granite (or any stone counters), stainless steel, glass, etc. And it is recommended to use the stronger alcohol (I think it is 92% though not 99%).

I've only been able to find 70% or 99%. Any suggestions?

The 99% is fine.
