This isn't particularly finance-related, but it's the closest thing I could find that relates to my question and is anonymous-posting-enabled.
Would anyone know of a source for kimcha d'pischa or ma'os chitim? Which is the correct term? is there a diff. bet. the two?
Can you point me to the text, please?
Also, is this a minhag? a mitzva? a what?

Both terms are correct. It is a minhag.
The Rambam counts tzedaka to be part of the mitzvah of שמחת יום טוב. הלכות שביתת יום טוב, ו,:ח
The Rema mentions it as an old minhag.
