Hi,

My parents have flown for a visit from the UK to Israel with EasyJet. Their baggage has been delayed.

Easyjet offers small amount to reimburse for "essential items" after 24 hrs - as far as I understand (http://www.easyjet.com/en/help/baggage/damaged-delayed-or-lost-luggage)

The EU law seems to say that you can spend up to 1,220euro:
"If your checked-in luggage is lost, damaged or delayed, the airline is liable and you're entitled to compensation up to an amount of approximately EUR 1 220. However if the damage was caused by an inherent defect in the baggage itself, you're not entitled to any compensation." http://europa.eu/youreurope/ci.....blems

They do not know when the baggage will return - or if it's been located. My question is, can they buy clothes for Shabbos up to 1,220euro tomorrow, even if their luggage ends up coming tomorrow just before Shabbos? Obviously they won't spend that amount, they'll just buy things that were in the case and they need for shabbos,.

Please help out!
Thank you,

I think they should buy a reasonable amount of clothing they need. Keep all receipts. If luggage comes they can return clothing they don't need.

This once happened to me not with easyjet but with another airline between 2 eu countries and despite sending them receipts I never saw any money. (partly because I was too lazy to follow up) They found the suitcase after 6 weeks.

So do you know if they are entitled to money back if they get the case, like, tomorrow? Or, is it unlikely that it'll arrive so quick.... I have something for me in that case, and I've waited for it for ages!!!!!!

Thanks for replying Wink

It wouldn't apply because Israel is not in the eu.

I think Israel is considered Europe for flight purposes. In any case it may apply if the flight originated in the EU.

I think if you get the case tomorrow and submit receipts for one days clothing (eg pack of socks, pack of underwear, and a shirt) they should reimburse something like that. You obviously need some clean clothing.

I've often received cases after one day, unless it is lost in which case who knows.

.

I went to the link the whole flight had to take place in the eu, not Europe. Israel is not an eu member.

However, if op's parents bought their tickets with a credit card, it may offer some benefits. I know the chase sapphire card does and probably some others.

On the link, the third option says: "If your flight departs from the EU to a non-EU country operated by an EU or a non-EU airline", I thought that meant that flights from UK to Israel would be covered?

I'll check re credit card. Thanks both of you!

Op, my mistake, I wasn't paying full attention.

You are probably right. It doesn't list a time frame for return of luggage. You may want to check that

It says they pay for "essential items" if the bag is missing a day or two. Maybe underwear, toiletries. Most say not a new outfit, but others say clothes.

Hope it arrives quickly.
