You can try to buy a used crib or build a frame

My crib looks similar to the Pinterest picture.
My crib the slats end at the bottom of the mattress, so I had a lot more height from floor. Felt sounds like a good idea and then you don't need a drill.
As you notice the crib is built around the frame under the mattress, that frame is the same size as the mattress so don't build anything bigger to border your mattress since it may not fit.
Where you can get free frames? If you live in a populated jewish community, take a walk the night before garbage/recycling pickup and if the good housewives are doing their jobs you will find multiple dismantled cribs. I personally usually see cribs and high risers even couches.
Otherwise keep an eye on free listings at craigslist or check thrift shops.

Pink amother I didn't realize you meant crib frames, I thought you meant the specific type of frame I'm looking for. If I'm gonna be building, I think I may as well just do my own thing.
