How about 'I never buy them and still wouldn't buy them'? Talk to me when their writers attend a few years of seriously schooling in journalism and general writing skills...I would be so happy to read about pertinent frum topics in a way that doesn't make me feel like I'm reading 5th grade book reports.

Lol. Perhaps the audience, but not most of the posters. (Aside from the fact that there are also many right wing people who choose not to have internet at home.)

I feel really really bad for women who would not buy a magazine if there was a picture of a woman in it. I can't imagine having so little faith in my husband, or a husband with so little self control. I can't imagine viewing the female form with such fear and disgust. I can't imagine being so brainwashed that I actually become complicit in the effort to demean and erase women, to support the idea that their faces are inherently dangerous to our society.

I am truly sorry for you.

I feel really, really bad for insecure people that come down so strong on others that choose to be more machmir in shmiras aynayim, whatever their reason. It's sad that there are really posters here that feel the need to demean these women with posts full of disgust and to post words which refer to their husbands as having "so little self control" and deciding that because they are machmir they must view "the female form with such fear and disgust" as well as trying to imagine aloud how they are so "brainwashed" that they "become complicit in the effort to demean and erase women."

If your post doesn't demean others, I don't know what does. How rude. I am truly sorry for your insecurities. How relieving it must be to shout to the world that you are so lucky to have a husband with so much self control and in whom you have so much faith.

I'm finding this thread interesting in light of the Brazilian thread. So there I learned it's expected that young yeshivish men will watch [filth] and women should groom themselves to live up to these expectations. But a completely tznius headshot of a very frum woman is beyond the pale in ultra orthodox home and men and their wives cannot handle it. It's an odd dichotomy.

Fascinating how you believe these ideas are entertained by the same people. And gosh, not sure which thread you are talking about but 馃あ - far from common.

It's one of the Brazilian threads from today, and was confirmed there by some yeshivish posters. I don't make this stuff up...

Excuse me?

That post regarding [filth] and Brazilian didn't even mention the word Yeshivish. It was one poster and she only used the word frum. (Unless you are trying to imply that only Yeshivish people are frum.)

And even if they would have said Yeshivish, why would you choose to listen to the words of one poster to label an entire community?

The area being referenced is a yeshivish area and posters who have self identified as yeshivish confirmed. I don't know it could be other rw communities as well that have a similar dichotomy but that's what I gleaned from that thread.

So if someone in a predominantly mo community asked a similar question it would be safe to assume many young mo men watch [filth]?

Well no. Obviously. If you would say that you'd be called dumb or lacking intelligence or thinking skills. It only works to say it if it's about a yeshivish person.

In fairness, I don't think it was a criticism of a particular group. I think her point was that even if you erase women from frum magazines, someone who wants to find inappropriate images will find them. Keeping women out of magazines doesn't prevent bad behavior.

If an mo poster said that mo kallah teachers encourage kalahs to get Brazilians because the guys watch [filth] and have that expectation and several mo posters agreed then you could presume that that might be true. Whatever I hope it's not true either, pretty weird right?

My point was that if it's accepted that men will see the most inappropriate pictures of women possible, but any tznius picture of a rebetzin can't be in a frum home that only sends the message that women can only be relations objects. They exist to be titilating to men and that makes me sad.

Maybe we are thinking about different threads. the latest Brazilian Lakewood thread did not mention.

A. yeshivish
B. [filth].
C. Kallah Teachers
D. General Expectations.

It was one person asking about Brazilian waxes.

You extrapolated that if a man in Lakewood wants his wife to get a Brazilian wax he must:
A. Be Yeshivish
B. Watch [filth]
C. Kallah teachers encourage it

What a way to mess with the poor womens head.

Your post makes sense if you consider shmiras einayim a chok.
fmt4 is talking about shmiras einayim as a geder.
