My son is just starting beis medrash, and he is an AVID reader. Does anybody have any recommendations for "clean", good books? Not judaica books, secular books.

What genre does he prefer? Fiction? Historical? Mystery?

My brother who is very Yeshivish likes Jodi Picoult. Personally, I don't care for them and never read any of her books, so I can't vouch for the cleanliness. I think he liked the emotional aspect of them. May be worth looking into.

Please don't ask for "adult" books for your son. "Adult" is used as a euphemism for "[filthy]".

I don't know the other ones but the Hitchhiker series is definitely not for a yeshiva boy. Which is a shame because other than that inappropriate streak, they are magnificent.

MY DH enjoys books by Orson Scott Card, I don't know how "clean" they are - but worth investigating because the author is a Mormon (these are mostly science fiction, he actually has a series about the four imahot, which I read (Sara and Rebecca), they were not bad, I don't remember how "clean" they were though).

I love the westerns by Louis L'Amour.
They are extremely well written and very clean. All the women are respectable and respected. There is lots of action and I usually skip the wrestling scenes, but it's great for those who like that part. There is good character development and the heros are strong. As heros should be.
He has a few that are not westerns too.
