Looking for a 6 y.o. girl's outfit or dress for y"t and shabbos for $40 or less, that I can buy online. Needs to cover knees and my only hang-up is I don't like the party dress style.
I've checked out the usual places.....Appreciate all help!

This dress is gorgeous (check out the back detail!). It runs true to size. The 5-6 fully covers my 5 year old's knees. The belt is an ugly shade of pink irl. I replaced it with a pale yellow and bought a matching hairband. She looks like she is wearing Jacadi!

I just bought my DD a few dresses at Carters. I sized up one and they cover her knees with room to grow. (All need a shell under)

I haven't tried it so I don't know if covers knees, just thought its really pretty. I usually order a bigger size for length and zara has such great shipping that it's worth it to order and try.

I just ordered this : https://www.jcrew.com/p/C3809
yesterday from Jcrew for my 6 year old. Hope it's long enough! They have a ton of pretty dresses. Yesterday they were 40% off. Not sure if there's any sale today. Good luck!

OP here, thanks so much everyone, the dresses you all linked to are adorable!
My problem is, dd is super skinny, but average height for her age. When I try going up a size or two for the length, things end up just hanging on her and looking ridiculously big.
Is there a cheap or simple way of altering? That always seemed so complicated...

There are tons of inexpensive dresses on Amazon, but you have to wade through the stuff that won't work.

Where are you located? Because it's almost Easter, there are lots of cute affordable dresses rights in stores like Target, Walmart & Costco right now.

I got this for my skinny but tallish 8 year old (I got it in size 8) and it just just just covers her knees. It runs pretty narrow so you may be able to size up if you want it a little longer.

I also ordered this dress for my shortish, skinny 7 year old in the size 7 (she normally wears a 5/6), It runs narrow too so I was able to size up and it hit just below her knees. For a child of average height it may not cover the knee. But it's pretty cheap so you may be able to just add a white piece of material/ribbon to the bottom and still keep it under $40.

I just ordered this dress for $17 from Amazon for my average height and weight 6 year old. I ordered the size that says fits age 7-8 and covers her knees with room to spare and looks really beautiful on.

BTW, when looking at a picture of a dress, if the skirt appears to be about the same length as the bodice, it likely will not cover the knees. The skirt has to look longer than the bodice for it to be long enough. Good luck!

Thank you. I loved the navy one so much that I actually went back and also ordered it for my 7 year old (even though she totally does not need another thing). I wish they also had it in little girl sizes and I would have gotten it for my younger girls too.

This is only true if it has a regular waist. Some of the fancier dresses I've seen this year are high (or empire) waists, so even though the skirt looks longer the dress is still not long enough.
I ordered 2 dresses from Amazon for my (tall) 10 yo. They are coming today. If they are long enough (they should be as they said tea length) then I will try to post links this evening.
