When did you install a car seat before your first? Want to make sure it's all ready to go for when I go into labor but also don't want to install it too early. Thoughts?

We installed it when the baby was ready to leave the hospital. No need to install before the baby is born

Same here. We didn't even buy one until the baby was born.

we purchased and installed before leaving the hospital (a family member went out and bought it and my husband installed it in the hospital parking lot). It was very hectic and I wish we had gotten it all taken care of earlier. You have to be careful you're installing them correctly- we'd never installed one before. I recommend doing it at least a couple of weeks before your due date- purchase it even before then just in case.

We had the bucket type care seat and installed the base around 37 weeks (as I said to DH if the baby was earlier than that she wouldn't be coming home so quickly). We kept the 'bucket' part in the house.
