we just did this. we have an EXTREMELY active 18 month old. we took literally an entire carry on of mostly NEW and a couple other favorites of him toys for him. I went to the dollar store and just bought a whole bunch of stuff just for the plane ride. we downloaded some shows for him to watch on our phones/ tablet. we also found a few cute apps that he was able to play.
in terms of food, we brought the regular foods that he likes to eat along with a few new treats that he enjoyed- like chocolate. when I asked for advice everyone told us to bring lots of junk food to keep him busy. turns out none of us wanted the junk and we all wanted real food...
lastly, he walked up and down the aisles. and up and down. and up and down. for hours. literally. might be harder if your baby doesnt walk yet, but you can take him on walks up and down the aisles.
good luck!
