Someone referred to "all the craziness there". I've good friends there (very black hat), we are more modern and tzioni and I dream of one day moving there. So is it really crazy there? Which parts are more suited to tzioni people?

Beit Shemesh is not crazy. I live here and it is amazing Smile
There's a minority # of crazy people, but that exists in every city. There was some drama in the past (and sometimes there still is - like protests, etc.) but again, those people are a minority.
Givat Sharet, Nofei Aviv, and certain parts of RBS-A (nachal dolev, nachal katlav, nachal maor, nachal ein gedi,) have a nice size dati leumi community.

The area specifically between sheinfeld and rbs bet is where all of the craziness is happening.
If your friend is very black hat, they are probably is ramat beit shemesh, I would assume.
For tzioni anglo people is it definitely beit shemesh but there are many areas, not just sheinfeld.

Just because they are a minority doesn't mean they cause serious trouble. Extremist Muslims are a minority and still they cause major upheaval.

I used to live in RBS.

Don't just brush it off, if it bothers you - look into it! While the area has positive things about it - there are negatives, just like anywhere else.
