What can you tell me about the area?

It looks so beautiful, I love the setting and all and it seems many jewish people own, but don't live there, rather renting to non-jews. People say it should get off real fast and that some type of chasidish shul is operating in the area.

Anyone?

I can't afford in Airmont

It is very pretty there and affordable. I know people who are not chassidish who are buying there too. It's slowly becoming frum.

Is that the area between New Square and the Golf Course? Is this what's called "up the hill" (the new up the hill, not the hill in old monsey)?

I don't think it's really known as Hillcrest which is why you may not be getting responses. I've never heard it being called Hillcrest.

Can you give a few street names of what you're referring to? I live between New Square and Monsey but my area is called New Hempstead.

Hillcreat is off Viola.
It's a 6 minute drive to new square seems walking distance and a 10 minute drive to Monsey Main street.

I was recently informed that new square is buying up as many houses as they can within 1 square mile and renting to non Jews because they want new square to remain their own little enclave.

They'll tolerate a litvish community and maybe a litvish shul. But they won't allow chassidim to settle there or a chassidish shul to open up. Before you ask "what are they gonna do about it" these are the same people who lit a house on fire while a Jewish family was inside.

I'm not sure if this neighborhood that you're talking about is within a square mile from new square. I know that parts of new Hempstead are off limits to chassidim.

This. A family member bought in Hillcrest last year. They were pressured to sell to skver. They sold to them and bought in New Hempstead.

Um. gulp.

The broker is chasidish and he showed us the chasidish shul there operating with a mikvah on premises on Andover Road

I googled and it is not within a mile from skver
but this sounds total beserk!

Can skver truly dictate who lives where? I thought this was a democratic country

they own the mile?

and who is skver?
the shtetl? the rebbe?
they have a limitless bank account to buy up like 2000 houses

this sounds ludicrous to me

anyway I'm quoting the broker
buses go there, the closest grocery is hatzlacha supermarket and also one in skver and bingo delivers property tax for a home we saw wa about 12000
