We are bH planning the wedding of our first child. We had anticipated and budgeted for 300 guests from our side. We just sat down and compiled a guest list - really removing many names- and realize we are inviting approximately 500 people.
For those of you who have live in the ny area and recently made a wedding in the ny area, what percentage of invited guests attended the dinner?

Mazel tov!
Our experience is 85-90 percent, but ask the caterer. Especially if the wedding is scheduled for a time when a lot of people go on vacation you might have a lower yield.

I agree the number is very high. About 90%. These people will at least sit down enough to use the setting and be charged by the caterer for a dinner. They might leave soon after appetizer and/or soup, though.

If they're at all close with you and you're doing it in a reasonable place and at a reasonable time (not far away, not in the summer when people are upstate, not Lag B'Omer when there are multiple simchos), expect quite a high yield, certainly far higher than the 60% you seem to be hoping for.
