Usally two, sometimes a 3rd "special" (sweet) one for shabbos.

(I have more in the house, but they have to be finished a box to open another)

Do you have room to store more than you have? Why not purchase more?

Space is the limiting factor in my house.

Not more than two open. They get stale and messy otherwise.

We are big cereal eaters. I'd say usually I have between 5 and 10 different cereals in the house. I don't have a lot of extra space to store multiple boxes of the same cereal, but if I see a good sale I will buy a couple extra boxes.

Usually 2-3 sweet "Shabbos cereals", and 3-4 weekday cereals. We go through a lot of cereal, and everyone has different preferences.

always stocking the same 3 plain types: toasted oats, crispy rice, cornflakes. Not the sugary ones.
If I get sweet "Shabbos" cereal, I get only the amount needed for that Shabbos, otherwise they won't stop till they finish it anyway. So it's either one-two boxes of the same type or two different types. If large box then one, if small one then two.

We have like 9 diff varieties right now (and multiple boxes of some of them) but honey nut cheerios and sweet special k are the sweetest ones we have. The rest is like regular cheerios, rice krispies, fiber one, etc. It's really because of me. My husband eats the same one thing every morning and our child is under 2. :-p cereal is one of my favorite foods.

2 different ones each week. Sometimes a third sugary cereal.
When there are too many options, it doesn't work out...

I don't buy very sugary cereals ever. Except sometimes in the mini boxes as a treat. I stock up because cereal often goes on sale. So when cheerios is on sale I buy lots.

We have about 5 boxes open at any one time.

One. Ditto for salad dressings, cheeses, jams, juices, etc. When one is finished., we open another. Having a selection is a luxury, not a necessity, and often leads to waste. But even if I liked the idea, I would still nix it because it's a form of clutter IMHO.

7 and if there would be more that someone is willing to taste I'd get it! I'm on WIC and get 6-9 boxes monthly (only one of my kids eats it as a breakfast a second will have some as a snack)
