Anyone remember this? Here's what I can remember (it's an earworm so I need to whole thing so maybe if I sing it in its entirety it will go away!)

Oh my father I have wandered from the shelter of your home...

I remember tender teardrops on the day we said goodbye...
Oh my father I'm alone.

Oh my son I've been waiting..all these years
It's a cruel world that we live in
In my arms you'll dry your tears.

Shma beni musar avicha
Please remember the only truth
Toras Emes is a torch
Passed from elder unto youth.

I thought I was the only one who still listens to these type of songs
It is on the JEP I CD You have it almost all correct. It goes as follows

Oh my father I have wandered from the shelter of your home...
Now please guide me through the darkness
oh my father I'm alone
I remember tender teardrops on the day we said goodbye...
Now I yearn to see once more raise up (heaven?) in your eyes

Oh my son enter freely I've been waiting all these years
it's a cruel world that we live in
in my arms you'll dry your tears

Shma beni musar avicha
Please remember the only truth
Toras Emes is a torch
Passed from elder unto youth

Now I yearn to see once more raise up (heaven?) in your eyes
I think rays of heaven

Thanks!

Actually I am remembering it from a record (if anyone knows what that is) - my grandson was humming it recently. I am not sure if they have the CD. I'll have to ask them. Or could be someone used the tune for something, and that's how he heard it.

Oh my! You shlepped me back some 30 years ago!
My dear nicholai...
One peaceful Friday night...

I still have the cassette somewhere.

My mother still has records stashed away somewhere.

I see mostlymusic.com is still selling them in cds.

I love those two songs you mentioned! So moving and inspirational. And so very different than the songs of today.

Well you can listen to snatches here - this particular song is #11. Wow, that was fun, and amazing how many words I can remember.

I am very tempted to order all the CDs.

Such memories. Such moving songs. Most contemporary songs are meant for entertainment not to inspire like these.

I remember when I was a teenager my parents would say these songs are not like the Yiddish shtetel songs they grew up with that really express our pain over golus and our yearnings for it to end and to live our lives properly. But that doesn't take away from these songs at all.
