Hi Everyone,
We're remodeling our kitchen and are choosing appliances. It seems that many people get warming drawers. But, we spoke to our Rav and he does not approve of warming drawers :-/. He said that when the drawer is opened it activates the heating element (which is like turning on a fire). I think a warming drawer is a nice feature and I wanted to know how to people use it? Is there a loophole I'm missing?

This is not a subject I know a lot about but I found this helpful: http://www.yeshiva.co/ask/?id=5149
I also assume there are warming drawers that have shabbos mode settings so that they don't cycle on and off when opened. I know lots of frum people with warming drawers so I assume they are either relying on a different halakhic opinion or have a different type of warming drawer

There's this: http://www.keeperisrael.co.il/
And I know it said somewhere, maybe on the site or in a pamphlet I got about it, that it is approved for shabbat by both the Zomet Institute in Israel and the OU, if that helps.

We use a warming drawer. It lights up when the heating element is on. We open it then, so opening it doesn't turn on the heating element.

Turquoise imamother - what warming drawer do you have?? We're also doing a kitchen and our rabbi said if we can find one like this we can use it! But no one has been able to find one like it.

Its built into our oven, which is a decade old. Sorry.
If you live in an area with a decently large frum population, visit an appliance store that has knowledge of those things. I recommend Yudins in the NY/NJ area.

Oh maan. What company/model is your oven? Maybe they make a warming drawer with a similar feature.
It's strange. When I've called Jewish appliance stores they say there isn't any drawer like that or they just straight out refuse to answer because they say it's a halachic issue. I'll definitely try Yudins though.

some one Rabbi Hershkowitz spoke in the bais horaah of flatbush on pesach about warming drawers on sabbos, he said most models are okay. I can maybe try to get his info if u want.
