A. Initial move.
B. Monthly
Background- We are thinking of making Aliyah in the next 10 Yrs, if ChVShlm Moshiach is not here by then.
We will be Semi- retired
Not planning to work
Husband will be in Kolel
Myself learning and doing Chesed.
Retired.
No kids at home.
Things we "need", monthly
1. Visit kids in the states 1x a year.
2. We eat well, chicken every night, meat every Shabbat. Could be adjusted
3. Enjoy going to restaurants 1x a week.
4. Want to be able to travel around Israel, stay at a hotel, etc. 4x5x a year for 1 week. (We do this now, in our state)
5. Need 1 car, 2 cells, Internet access.
Also I know there will be an initial cost to move, have no idea how much.
Planning on not taking too much, buying everything in Israel.
Ok with renting, but would like to own an apartment in Yerushalayim, but a quiet area. Nothing fancy, no further than 40 min- 1 hr. away by bus to central bus station.

No one can really estimate what your intial costs will be because we don't know what the prices to buy will be in 10 years - real estate in israel goes up tremendously....
In a place like Har Nof which is quiet, 20 min by bus to cbs, and has lots of Anglos's your age you can find a 3-4 bedroom low floor property for 2,000,000 NIS (about 565,000) - 2,600,000 NIS (about 735,00).
Are you planning on bringing all your furniture in a lift or are you buying new? I would factor about 100,000 NIS or 30,000 $ for lift / new furniture, because you also need to buy appliances (in israel homes come without appliances) Unless you are ok with buying second hand (that what we did but we have a much simpler lifestyle)
Cars are much more expensive here - a new car would start at 200,000 NIS and a newer model used car 80,000 NIS - 150,000 NIS depending on the age, condition, model.
Our income is 2,300$ monthly- we eat well , have 2 cells and internet access- BUT;
We go out to eat once a month
Don't have a car
Go out to eat once a month
Go on 1 vacations a year in Israel
So to afford your lifestyle you would probaby need 3,300- 3,500$ monthly(probably closer to 3,500$)
Thats unless you are buying without a mortgage and your biggest expense is gone, 2,500$ should be enough then...

Assuming you don't need a 7-seater, cars are much less than previous reply would indicate. You can get new smaller cars (hatchbacks) for under 70K NIS. (It's still a lot, but gas mileage is better, insurance and maintenance are lower, and starting price is lower. It does make a difference.)
