I have a fantastic good quality dining room set.
It's more than 20 yrs old.
I really love it.
Perfect for me in every way.
Good bones.

The problem is
I'm moving into a very modern apartment
Everything will be white and grey
The furniture is cherry wood.

I would like to refinish and reupholster the furniture in lacquered grey
Everyone I speak to(not experts) tell me it's very expensive to do it.
It's worth just to buy new.

Everything I see out there, either looks like it belongs more in the kitchen, is really cheap looking, or is similar to what I have and cherry/dark wood.

Has anyone on here done this?
More or less how much did you pay for each chair?

I'm looking to pay $125-$150.
Is it possible?
Should I even shlep around until I find someone.

Or is my budget for such a thing too low, and I shouldn't even bother.

I live OOT, and would really need to shlep from factory shop to factory shop looking for the best price, since usually these people don't advertise on the Internet.

BTW, I'm looking to do 14 chairs.

thanks

I'm planning to reupholster 12 chairs. It's about the same as getting new, but my chairs are solid and I have not seen anything I like better.
If only the seat has upholstery, it is very easy to do yourself. Mine have upholstered backs, and I've gotten quotes of $150 and up - without the fabric.

The cushions u can do yourself its really easy u just need a staple gun and the fabric. My sister had the genius idea to do vinyl and that way it's waterproof and stain proof. We did it together and it gave her dining room set a nice new look.

Also I just spray painted a china cabinet for the same reason as u. I moved and needed grey instead of cherry wood and I cannot tell u how easy it was and how many compliments I get. And all it took was 6 bottles of spray paint at $7 each and an evening w my husband out by the back yard. So fun and rewarding and also easy.

I'm looking to do professional lacquer.
Was not looking to do it myself.
It's 14 chairs and 4 table pedestals.

The upholstery can wait.
Believe it or not after so many years the upholstery look brand new, since it's covered in plastic.
I would probably remove the plastic, and wait until it really needs to be done.
The only thing is it might not match, but hey I can always say it's so modern it's suppose to be like that. It may end up being fine.
