Every name is too mature for a baby. They grow into their names. I'd be more worried about a grown man being saddled with a childish nickname.

OUAT every Jew had a nickname like Shloymele, etc.

It's so funny you said this! I was just talking with my husband about how we associate names with personalities of people we already know. For example my uncle is David. He's the only David I know. My uncle is very tall. I associate David with tall people. Dh has a friend akiva who is a red head. I ridiculously assume most akiva's are red heads. I'm assuming the yehuda's you know are mature, correct?
