also: faiga is a fig where as feigl is the bird (at least thats what my yiddish speaking friends say)
we'd name faiga after one grandmother and leah after another grandmother...
the faiga we name originally after was nicknamed fanja, we dont like the sound of that too much.
the leah we name after was nicknamed illi ( I dont know why), we also dont like the sound too much.
the combination faiga-leah we like though, and basically agreed upon

Its פליגלע not פייגלע the offensive word. Anyways Faiga is a popular name todays days because its Reb Nachman of breslovs mother's name.

I explained the definition because I felt you were being misinformed. It's not a common tease word in 2017 anymore. And Like Ruchel said, there are always offensive terms. Shlome can be called shlomele the shlack shamosh and so on. It's never ending.
I know some incredible Faigys and Faigalehs. They were never teased about thier name. Btw The Faigys I know are meant to translate as bird not fig.

While "Faigl" is Yiddish for bird (just like "Vogel" in German), over the centuries people dropped the final "l" as though it were a diminutive nickname. Although this is a corruption of proper Yiddish, it is very common to see the name Faige/Faiga without the final "l" and for the proper intended meaning to still be "bird" rather than "fig".
