I am looking for gown inspiration, either something I can buy online or a picture that I can take to a dressmaker and build from scratch.

I am not creative enough to design my own gown, but some people love it, so this may be a fun challenge.

here are the requirements:
1. Preferably black (or dark - navy, gray)
2. Should flatter a short (5'), plus-size late 20-year-old who will IY"H be 3 months post-partum (not nursing)
3. Should be STUNNING and not look like a robe

If anyone can help me out, either by posting a link online or by posting a picture, that would be an amazing chessed. Or, if you have any ideas of how to make a gown look gorgeous, such as material/trim/anything to hide the fat (cape, draping etc), please let me know.

The more specific you can be, the better.

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

How about something like this (filled in under the lace)

Also, google Adele gowns for inspiration. She has some gorgeous, flattering gowns that are modest.

Try a gown that has detail on the sides (either lace or a different color fabric) that gives the illusion of an hourglass figure.

That is nice! I would have to have it fully lined - would it look so good if lined all black? Or would it look robe-y?

What do you call this material - is it beading or lace?

Good idea....this usually works if the black is on the side...so if the dress is all black, what could I put on the side? Black lace or beading?

I think it would be beautiful. The style doesn't seem robe-y to me. It looks like a combination of beading and lace. I would probably just do the beading throughout.

Also, I would avoid anything stretchy or ruched by the midsection so soon after a baby.

I don't think that would flatter a plus-sized figure at all. Its going to accentuate hips, and any residual rolls will show. And -- I'm really sorry, I'm usually not so critical -- but even the model, who is presumably gorgeous, reminds me of a drag queen in it.

https://www.google.com/search?.....WNzM:

Something like this. Lace, beading, or a different fabric, even if it is also black, can be used as a contrast to create an illusion.
