Hi,
We are redoing out bathroom and our house have very limited storage space.
The walls are open now and the guy will be putting up the tiles tomorrow.

I thought of an idea, to get a cabinet that can go in the recess of the wall.
Problem is, I couldn't find anything that will look right with the tiles/room decor.
So I was thinking of getting a simple mirrored one and paint over it with acrylic or glass paint.

Has anyone ever done that?
I need to answer the contractor within the next hour or so.
Thanks.

Sounds interesting.
Why isn't a recessed medicine cabinet enough and the storage that the vanity has?

Why paint it? Simple mirror-door medicine chest goes with anything.

Unless I'm not understanding something.

Its a full lenght mirror style. 36"

And its RIGHT across the toilet seat.
Not putting any mirrors there iykwim.
I have separate vanity. But I need storage for extra rolls of toilet paper, bars of soap, wipes, other private stuff....

what size is the vanity?
I have enough room for all that stuff in the bottom of the vanity. I wouldn't put a full lefty mirror in a bathroom. Will be covered with fingerprints. And not a fan of painting it either.

Is this in your personal bathroom? Kids bathroom? Powder room?

What are you putting in? If you show us a picture maybe we can help you find something similar that's not mirror.
Is it something like this Ikea high cabinet?

There are a number of such bathroom options.

Also a number of similar high cabinets in the kitchen section.

This is the only bathroom on the main floor. The house is a typical bi-level high ranch. There is another full bathroom on the lower level for when we have sleep over guests but this will be the bathroom visitors will be using, I will be using and kids will be using.
We did a "kosher" bathroom, putting a wall between the bathroom and vanity so I need storage in the bathroom itself.

Would a concealed recessed cabinet work?

FYI I don't think there's anything wrong with having the mirrored cabinet right in front of person sitting on the toilet. Smile

If you're set on this cabinet and don't want the mirror all the way, perhaps try adhesive film. There are many different designs and you can get something that matches the rest of the bathroom. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=n.....+film

I would rather put one of these over the toilet storage units. https://www.wayfair.com/Rebril.....w_wcB

Or you can use an Ikea type cabinet like ra_mom linked and have it stick out a bit because the wall won't be able to recess the full depth of the cabinet.

I put up the cabinet. I'll have to see what I can do with the mirror.

Over the toilet I have a towel warmer. So I cant do over the toilet storage.

I like that beciase kids can reach the bottom shelf to get a new rool of toilet paper or something. And the top shelves where the kids cant reach is great to keep private stuff.

I'll post here a picture once it's done.
I think it's a brilliant idea because there is VERY little storage in my house. Every of possible storage is explored.

It sounds amazing! I love little neat built ins for storage that don't take up floor space. Enjoy having a place for everything!

A towel warmer sounds luxurious... Yum!

You can also spray paint the mirror so that it appears frosted http://www.homedepot.com/p/Rus.....95608
