I went to Dr. Hassan with my son several years ago. He was kind, caring and has an excellent reputation. He resolved my son's recurring migraines by figuring out the trigger.
He is also wheelchair bound, which I wish I'd have known before, only so I would've mentioned it to my young son before our visit. He came highly recommended, and after our experience I would recommend him too.

I thought him very nice. His office is a little nasty, though. I refused to sign the paper that said that I would have to cover all the costs of the tests in case it wasn't covered under insurance. The secretary was like,"don't you want the doctor to get to the bottom of it?" I replied, "you have no idea what I'm here for! Do not do any tests that are not normally covered under insurance!"

Anyway, he ran zero tests. It was just a consult with questions to me. I wasn't sure if my son was having ticks or not. He felt after the question/answers that it was ticks and they wax and wane. Nothing really to do about it.

Okay- fast forward a few months later, I took ds to an allergist where he was diagnosed with environmental allergies. Once he started allergy medication and allergy shots the "ticks" went away. I had taken my ds to an ENT because I first thought the throat clearing was an ENT issue. The ENT thought it might be reflux. It wasn't. The neurologist thought it might be ticks. It wasn't. He thought maybe my son had ADHD. He doesn't btw. Each specialist thought it might be an issue that was related to his specialty. I realized then you need to daven that you go to the right specialist because each one sees it from his own specialty.

Thank you. About the wheelchair my doc did mention that. My pediatrician recommended him too rule out adhd for my son. Anyone went to him regarding adhd? Was adhd always found by him?

After he said maybe my son has ADHD and I wasn't even there for any sort of diagnosis like that, I thought he must be the type of dr that its easy for him to write a dx of ADHD. I was very annoyed by that comment. OTher than that, and the misdiagnosis of a tick, he was very, very nice.

And I have a feeling that I used the same pediatrician that you use. I switched. He missed a lot of things with my kids and kept on telling me everything was okay and he missed that my child needed a surgery.

Happens to be my pediatriciae is very spot on with his diagnoses. He will do blood work to rule out pandas and other testing as well. He's sending me to him becuse he wants to see the results from his computerised testing.

I found him to be very nice. He did an EEG as per the request of my doc to rule out seizures. He did seem to lean towards ADHD and suggest it even when I told him that wasn't what I was there for and when I told him what my daughter's psych ed eval showed, he disagreed after only 10 min of meeting her.

So if you're going for testing I'm not so comfortable that he can figure out what the problem is but if it's a test like EEG, it's fine

Couldnt it still have been a tic... just caused by allergies as opposed to PANDAS or reflux.

Tics caused by allergies may be PANS, of which PANDAS is a sub-type. Were there any other symptoms? I'm curious to hear more about this, because one of my children is having tics among other neuropsychiatric symptoms and her allergy markers are very elevated, though she has no known allergies.

Was your kid also having regular allergic symptoms?

It started out as throat clearing every two seconds. Then he added some side neck stretches . then he added some arm stretching. Ds had a whole little dance going on. I really thought he had some major ticking going on. But as soon as the allergy meds started within 2 weeks 50% of the ticks went away. and by a month it was 98% gone. Three years later (on allergy shots)he doesn't do those things. Throat clearing only happens when he has post nasal drip after a cold and then it goes away. The dr mentioned ADHD because my ds kept on interrupting him with questions about all the different gizmos and gadgets going on at his desk. Ds is a major science kid and he was enthralled. And, yes, ds was being extremely rude when he was interrupting. He does that when he gets excited, and maybe that may seem ADHD like, and maybe he does have some aspects of ADHD but not enough for it to affect his school work, which btw he is an honors student and does super well. Don't know why he had to bring it up if it wasn't a concern of mine.

For a child with mild seizures he was good at reassuring us there is no need for drugs.
For ADHD I would rather try the Brooklyn office of http://www.widenbaumwellnesscenter.com/ avoiding a few foods & adding a few supplements, great results.

I brought my daughter to him when she was around 3, on the recommendation of our pediatrician. All her therapists thought she may have Asperger's. We saw him twice, and he very decidedly diagnosed her ONLY with borderline speech apraxia. BH she is a healthy, bright 6 year old today. I was very happy with his manner, his professionalism and expertise.

I need a doctor that can do a computerized test to see if there's any adhd.
