Anyone go through or know of anyone that went through a skin biopsy?
Does it hurt? Leave a scar? Need to be put to sleep? Long term effects?

I've never been through a skin biopsy, though I have heard that it is about 45 seconds of pain and then it's over.
I will say, however, that you really need an expert to interprete the results correctly. (And no, not every doctor is an expert!)
Not sure what you are testing for, but if it comes back with spongioform or spongiosis, many doctors think that is indicative of eczema; it isn't. Real eczema is not spongioform. Steroid damage presents with spongiosis.

I had a punch biopsy. It was done in an area that I have a mole - so now there is a circle of regular skin where there was once brown. I don't recall it hurting for more than a few seconds - I was awake.

Anyone think of a reason why they would need to put my child under anesthesia?

I just had one this week. A few seconds of pain ( similar to a injection) , not a serious procedure, no showering for 24 hours and then no swimming for a week. It will scab and May scar after the scab heals.

Interesting, from what I am hearing from people, this seems to be something real simple. Doc wants my son sleeping with general anesthesia.

I've had moles removed any tested many times, beginning as a young teen. It was quick and painless and I was awake. An injection (or multiple injections, depending on size) of local anesthetic and then the mole was lasered off and the wound cauterized shut. I don't know what your son needs, but if it's similar to this I dont know why he'd need general anesthesia, unless maybe he's very young and/or may not sit still for the procedure.

Good point. My son is a year old. It will be used for testing.

In this case I understand it. I needed an MRI when I was very young (about a year and a half old) and it was done under general anesthesia. At that age it's less about the actual procedure and more about getting it done safely and accurately.
