Do you think chicken and fish will be ok to buy.
Don't know if they had a generator.
Need to get ready for the holidays.

Just called
They had no generators
How long will I have to wait to buy safe food?

I would keep calling and ask them when they are getting a fresh shipment. I hope it's soon.
I remember by Sandy, it was so difficult without any power and stores open with persihables!

I do not believe any major chain store would sell food that was without refrigeration. After Sandy all perishables were discarded.

That is a question you should have asked Costco.
I know that my local kosher butcher had a power failure and a generator failure and it was a matter of hours before all the cold cases and coolers were dumped and sanitized. They were operational in 4 hours. Your mileage may vary.

OP here
I called Costco NMB today.
They say they NOW have generators.
They claim that any damaged perishables were thrown out.
Can I trust this
Can I buy Empire chicken, Kirkland salmon and tilapia, eggs, lox, etc.
OTOH, it's too much for them to risk selling contaminated food.
Would you trust them

I would not trust my local kosher butcher in this situation. I would trust Costco.

cbg, I would trust Costco. They have too much to lose if they sell contaminated food.
Enjoy your Yom Tov shopping

I hope they have what you need but how could they possibly replace everything so fast? Especially kosher

A single grower for Empire can ship 30,000 chickens to one of their slaughter houses in a day. Empire slaughters almost a quarter of a million chickens a week at one PA slaughter operation and almost 30,000 turkeys. They own their own truck fleet driven by their own drivers. Because they have two drivers per truck they have no downtime for mandatory rest periods. Like most slaughter operations they probably own their own freezer blocks for storage and keep a surplus of chicken products there. It takes about 18 hrs to reach Miami from Phila. I don't know where you are but Costco also has large regional warehouses and depots that also have freezer blocks. The logistics are only complicated when it comes to moving product from a depot to a store impacted by the hurricane. It's likely that vehicles carrying emergency items and food resupply to retail stores get specific information as to what roads can be safely driven.

Costco has a very good return policy. It's highly unlikely they would sell meat and fish that hadn't been adequately refrigerated. But use your nose, and if you have the slightest doubts, take back the package(s) in question and exchange them.
