What do you do when you're child is potty training to protect the car seat? Is there any safe way to? Or do you just not worry about it and clean it up if the child goes to the bathroom while sitting in it?

I laid a plastic shopping bag between ds and the seat. He had accidents, but I was able to just wrap up the mess. BH he never played with it, so I wasn't too concerned about the fact that he was sitting on a suffocation hazard

I placed a folded towel underneath the child.

I never put anything under them. I guess I figured if there was an accident I would just wash the car seat pad.

For a long trip we've put a diaper/pull-up on top of their underwear, so they still feel the underwear, but they have protection in case we can't get to a bathroom fast enough--and then we just have to change the underwear.
