We need to move out of our current home but are not sure if we will be staying in New York for more than a year or two (or maybe we will stay job depending). What is a better financial decision? To buy or rent? There are many different cases for each side. If we buy and have to move we could rent the place out, until it becomes worth it to sell. Some say that's a big pain and you'll be lucky if you break even. I'm so sick of throwing money out on rent though, money that could have gone toward a mortgage. And it's possible we will stay here. And prices on houses are continuously going up.
Does anyone have any experience with this especially in New York?
Thanks

If you're likely to move in 1-2 years, the headache of buying, owning, and reselling is probably not worth it. I would just rent until I knew which direction I was headed.
