Hi,
I am looking into getting a full time para through the Board of Ed for my 5 year old son in a mainstream yeshiva in flatbush.
We had an overall evaluation over a year ago and he never got approved for anything.
school is saying he needs someone full time to keep him in school as he acts up a lot.
I am working privately now with a BCBA but 2 hours a week is not cutting it.
Does anyone have experience and know how to go about this or who I can call to get the fastest response?

I have had personal experience with this. The key is having the school send a rep to the meeting you have with b.o..e
First step, school must write a letter indicating the need for full time para. Least restrictive environment languaging is important.
Boe will send forms for teachers to fill out. They must fill it out completely, and indicate need for full time para.
When they schedule a meeting, have teacher and principal or other school staff attend the meeting. What school staff say is given a lot of weight. When they say the kid needs it, your kid is more likely to get it. And key is to include the least restrictive environment issue.
Hatzlacha!

You need to hire an advocate who has a lot to experience with this to help you because5he board of ed does everything it can to resist approving this service. Take help and be matzliach!

It's a lengthy process, and you need to have someone helping you and there's agencies that deal with that.
As another amother said the teacher and school staff can be very helpful here. and it's not guaranteed you will get it. Depending on your administrator, the teacher will most likely need to compile evidence of his concerning behaviors that warrant a full time para, as well as a behavior plan. Much hatzlacha..

I see now that you note that he was not approved for anything.. that makes it a lot harder. If he was found to be non-handicapped (non eligible for services) then why would your son now need a full time para?
My suggestion would be to reapply for SEIT services and see how many hours you can get. After a year you can request reevals, however you need someone with experience to help you navigate, and coach you on how to advocate for your child. Otherwise, you might be walking out with nothing or very little hours when your child clearly needs more.
