I'm moving into an apartment that currently has only 1 ceiling light in the dining room area. I like a lot of light.

The contractor will be building a soffit all around the perimeter and install recess lighting.
Also, he is able to install 1 extra ceiling light in the middle of the living room area.

My question is
Should I treat the rooms as 2 Seperate rooms and get different center lighting fixtures,
OR
They should match with the same fixture.

The room is not that large and the dining table will take most of the room

We have a similar setup. We added spots to the living room side, in the center not just the perimeter and put a chandelier in the center on the dining room side.I think 2 non recessed light fixtures will look too busy and if they're the same it will feel like one room instead of 2 separate areas.

The 2 center fixtures should definitely coordinate though they don't necessarily need to be the same.

I have 3s spotlights over the sofa (living room) and chandelier over dining room table. It's beautiful. No need for another fixture in l. room area.

I like this style or if there is an entry way or something in between the two areas you can put the fixture there and put spot lights in the other areas.

I can only put recessed lighting in a soffit because it's an apartment and they can't drill into the upstairs sound proof floors
Contractor said he can do 1 center fixture for the living room
To drop the ceiling would be too expensive and make the ceiling low.
So the only option is a soffit around the perimeter.
The dining room already has a ceiling light.
I can add one to the living room.

My question is, should they match/ coordinate,
Or be completely different

where do I find coordinating, but not matching light fixtures

Look in the lighting catalogues. The lighting stores have many catalogues.

Are you using a lighting designer?
