Did you ever buy something lousy just because you had a great salesman/saleslady?

What was it? What did the salesman/saleslady tell you?

Yes, at a kiosk in a mall. A clothing steamer, which was supposed to get your clothes looking starched to a T. All I got was a horrible burn..... I should've sued lol.

I bought because the salseman was pushy.
You know these telemarketing charity foundations?
After discussing thier cause and me listening for fear of making a chilul Hashem, they start;
Ok mrs ima so at this time, Can we put you down for a 180 dollar donation?
No sir.
Ok I understand that. Can I put you down for a 150 dollar donation?
No sir thats way above my limits.
Ok. I understand that's too much for you now. Ok mrs ima at this time can I put you down for a $120 donation?
No sir I am sorry.
Ok. I underarand that a 120 donation is too much for you. Can I put you down for a 100 dollar donation?
He never just sais; 75? Or how about $50? There is always the long; "Ok I understand that amount xyz is too much for you. Can I put you down for a abc dollar amount donation?"

Untill they finally reach the; can we put you down for a $10 doation? By that time I have heard the negotiating so many times. Plus according to the initial donation recommendation, 10 dollars is nothing. So, I nicely say; ok. Put me down for 10 dollars.
Do you realise that a moment before answering the phone I had no temptation to give even one red cent to that foundation? How did I go from zero to ten dollars in five minutes? The answer is Persuasion. Pushiness. Stubborness. Even monotonous repetition. Anything does the trick. Just dont give that person too much space to think.

Whenever a fundraiser calls, I tell them that I never make pledges over the phone. That ends the conversation right there. If they try to engage me in any further conversation, I tell them they are welcome to send their material in the mail because I do not make donations over the phone. Bye. I say this even to organizations that I am connected with and always donate to - I'll donate online or by mail but no need to waste your time calling.
