my question is whether or not to go by their reports with regard to- you guessed it - a washer/dryer :-)
need something that won't damage the clothes, give me clean white shirts, and is relatively quiet.

Thanks! it was intriguing to me to see a washer that has one of the highest ratings, for $550, and right below it, a washer with similarly high rating for $1200. Don't know what to make of it. it befuddles my mind.

Overall, they are pretty reliable, but you can’t just go by their ranking. You have to read the article carefully and see how they derived their scores. They may be giving a lot of weight to a feature that you don’t need and/or ignoring something that is important to you. Also, always check their brand reliability ratings for the item you are looking at.
