We're looking for a petting zoo or the like where the kids can have an interactive experience.
Any recommendations within a hour of Brooklyn (if it's a really great place maybe I can get the kids to handle a longer ride  ).
Ages 5-11.

I assume you don't mean any of the following, but I will mention them and you can decide if it's what you have in mind: both Prospect Park Zoo and Central Park Zoo have petting zoo areas. Space Farms is quite far and doesn't have a petting zoo, but it's a fantastic zoo and you can get pretty close to the animals. Also, Green Meadows Farm.

I love the Staten Island zoo. They have a section where you pay a little extra to enter a pen with llamas, and other similar animals. Might be crowded tommorow though.
