I am being in NY for a week with DH and baby what interesting things are there to do?
we can travel a few hours - something nice and interesting

Nice park - Central Park is right there with no traveling. Nice museum - again, NYC has no shortage of world-class museums - the Met, Museum of Natural History, MOMA, Math Museum, etc. If you want to travel, I would think DC would make the most sense, though if that's too far, check out Philadelphia.

Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island. Boat ride and beautiful views. Also history.
Central Park is a must-it has many different areas and museums on the next block.
