I have a few pieces of pretty tough meat- any way to fix it up that will soften it? or a recipe to use it in? My husband really doesn't like it this tough and I'd rather find a use for it then throw it out.

Is it tough because it was overcooked or because it wasn't cooked long enough?

What cut of meat is it?

I don't know the answers. I'm guessing it was overcooked- or maybe not cooked with enough liquid? It's not burned. Just not juicy at all and tough. And unsure of the cut of meat. It was made by someone else. It looks like maybe some kind of chuck?

If I were you, I'd slice the meat very thinly against the grain.
In a deep skillet sauté about 4-5 diced onions and a head of garlic sliced or crushed. Let saute until clear and golden. Add the sliced cooked meat. Pour cooking wine over the meat until just about covered in liquid. Cover skillet and cook on low heat for an hour to hour and a half making sure that the liquid is not cooked out. If needed add more wine while it cooks.

I would probably add it to a vegetable soup and hope that it gets softer when cooking with the soup

If you can shred it, add bbq sauce and make sandwiches

You could try making pulled beef for sandwiches or a filling for turnovers or burritos or something along those lines. You would probably need to add some sort of sauce for moisture.

ETA: I got distracted before finishing my post and missed what Andrea wrote. Great minds!

I ended up cutting it into really small pieces (couldn't shred it-it was that tough) and mixed it with sauteed onions and bbq sauce. Then I put it in cut puff pastry and folded it over to make kind of meat pocket sandwiches. Husband said it was delicious.
Thanks everyone!
