Ami wrote that after pleading guilty Ciba spent more than $300M to treat groundwater and clean up toxic waste on its property. The clean up was finished in 2010. Today 1.8M gallons of polluted groundwater are plumped into an aquifer every day and treated and released near toms river. However 40-50k sealed drums of waste remain in a sealed landfill and it's a subject of contention between the township and the owners even though it's in compliance with state and legal requirements. In 2015 Katherine McGreevy an epidemiologist at the DOH said that cancer rates for childhood cancer in toms river fell slightly below average from 2010 to 2015.
