No saddened liberal politicians uttering Muslim extremism?

Have I missed it?

Have you heard either the grieving, shocked, distraught, and saddened De Blasio or the grieving, shocked, distraught, and saddened Cuomo attributing today's act of terror to Muslim extremism?

Are they afraid they'll lose votes?

We clearly see both Democratic politicians saying how shocked they are, but my good friend Google hasnt come up with either politician mentioned above, using the phrase "Muslim extremism".

Is my friend Google not doing its job?

I'm probably going to surprise a lot of people by saying this, but I think the only appropriate public comment right now is to express condolences to the families and express general horror.

Yes, based on early reports, this sounds like a straightforward example of Muslim terrorism. But it's a bad habit to let ourselves get carried away by early reports simply because they feed the 24/7 news cycle. Give law enforcement a chance to do their job and pass along accurate information to elected officials.

If, as it seems, this turns out to be an example of jihad, there will be plenty of time to name it and respond.

There are almost always details that law enforcement keeps from reporters and the public until they've had a chance to work through the information. I'll be more impressed if elected officials remember this event in a week, a month, or when votes about related policies are being cast than if they jump the gun by responding to media reports instead of law enforcement reports.

Now that I think of it, maybe not.

Pols care about one thing- Votes. Pols are not looking to alienate any large group of people.
