Professional keyboard player interested in helping a needy couple by playing at their wedding for cost (about 2500 shekel). The cost includes a singer and all technical equipment necessary.

Sorry, but 2500 shekels doesn't sound like such a bargain or "chesed," especially for somebody truly in need and counting every shekel. If he was offering to do it for free, that would be something else.

I was thinking the same. Not sure why that's cost price- what is costing him 2500 shekel?

Its a partial recoup of the opportunity cost lost of not doing a full paid gig. (plus wear and tear on equipment, millage).

Sorry, he's welcome to charge whatever he wants, but don't ask to recoup opportunity cost and then call it chesed for a needy couple. And equipment wear and tear and mileage - how much does that cost exactly? Color me unimpressed.

When a therapist has a sliding scale of fees based on income - is that chesed for those who earn less?
Is something only chesed if its free?

With the term "needy couple" the price should be at a tzedaka level.
Try a different term for someone on a budget.
