As a person who has a family member who suffered from OCD for 15+ years. Books don't help. Neither does Exposure response. Psychodynamic is best.
1) please see a therapist and see if there are any childhood abuse/traumas that triggered it.
2) staying away from certain foods can be helpful like carbs, sugar.
3) pressuring the person to stop is the WORST thing ever.
4) always remember OCD is NOT a mental illness, it's an anxiety issue and anxiety comes from a trauma or bad experience.
I tried google but I could not find it for sale I the USA.

I think so too. I developed ocd after a particularly scary trauma. Good luck on finding an affordable therapy, never mind therapist.

huh? I don't understand, aren't some people just more wired for ocd, anxiety etc... just like depression... what do you mean it's not a mental illness? I suffer from ocd/anxiety and I've heard about ptsd etc... but not that it's not a mental illness. Please explain I would definitely be interested.

I'm with another Sienna. Please explain. My understanding is that ocd is a disorder on its own, related to anxiety. Stress (or I guess trauma) can trigger or make it worse. But that doesn't mean that everyone who has ocd has an underlying childhood trauma! Or that searching in the past is the best way of dealing wth ocd.

OCD is classified as a mental illness, as far as I know. But mental illness's of course can be worked with, and some can even be cured especially if they come later in life, like PTSD. No one is BORN with that. I'm sure some people develop OCD as a form of anxiety and yes, it can be treated quite nicely, but there ARE people born with it as a mental illness, and although it can be treated, it cannot be cured for everyone.

Please realize that what didn’t work for one person may work for another. I’m sure you’ve gained a tremendous amount of knowledge during this journey. And I’d imagine it’s been painful and for that you have my sympathy. But, please do not just give a blanket statement that exposure therapy doesn’t work. I know people for whom it’s been life changing.
