Hi ladies,
I am looking for info regarding a stand alone oven/range that is electric.
Firstly, what are the pro's and con's for a glass top vs. coils in terms of cooking ability and kashering ability.
Second, is there any specific brand that is recommended to use or stay away from?
I am looking for an inexpensive one: I will only be using sparingly (in my basement) - though I do need it to be self-cleaning .

Are you in the US? If so, Sears has the best quality at the lowest prices.

I prefer the electric coils, because you can heat them up red hot, and they are self kashering. You can't do that with the glass top. You can also put a blech on the coils, but if you do that on a glass top you could crack it, and lose your warrantee. Also, if one coil wears out, it's easy and cheap to get a replacement. Glass tops are expensive to repair.

I will check out sears.
Anything else I should be on the lookout for in terms of the oven part?

I have a coil electric oven and like it a lot. Make sure it has shabbos mode. I'm sure my model is outdated as it's a few yrs old, but we use shabbos mode every Friday night ! Also has a delay start so I can put frozen dinner in and it'll turn on let's say 2 hours before I Come home.
