I do work in kiruv and it's a huge problem in the field that women are underpaid or expected to volunteer their skills and services out of the goodness of our hearts. Yes of course I care about Klal Yisrael, that's why I love the work that I do - but I'd like to be compensated fairly as well! |
I've been involved in kiruv through JEP, going to Russia, and doing PR for a new kiruv school that opened (a job I was very underpaid for!). My married sister and her husband, and my married sil and her husband do kiruv on a college campuses. Kiruv was always my dream job, actually.
So yes, I totally get you!

Yes, Probation Officer. In the Probation Dept. of my local county. Undergrad degree in Sociology and Masters as well. Probation is an alternative to incarceration. It is more of a Social Work setting and our clients are, for the most part, highly motivated to avoid incarceration. It's 9-5, weekdays and I use vacation time to leave early on Friday and plenty of sick time and vacation add up as the years go by.

Information Technology (I thought I was one of the only frum women in the field but I see that someone else posted they also work in IT so that's cool ) I'm the only IT person in my organization so my work varies and there's always something new (and it can also be high pressure/stress but bH so far so good)

I always wondered why women never worked as kashrut supervisors.
There's nothing halachically against it is there?
Why do you think? |

Until the modern age, food was prepared at home, and all hashgacha work was done by women. |
I know there is some controversy in Israel about mashghichot, but obviously there is nothing halachically wrong with it as I am one. And had to be approved by at least 4 different hashgocha companies before I was hired.
And many women do work in hashgocha, its just not as well known or advertised. Can I quote my boss when he once told an interviewer he had 'x number of mashgichim'? I read the interview, and asked why he didn't say he had x-1 mashgichim and one mashgicha? His immediate answer was "because I don't want to lose my clients". I laughed because I knew how true that could be.
And the reason I got the job was because they couldn't find a man in our community who wanted it. My hours are from 7:30am until 4 or 5pm.
