I'm wondering, does whatsapp show my online status while I'm on my phone or only when I'm in the whatsapp app?
This feels so invading I hope whatsapp takes this down soon.

You can change your settings so it doenst show.

If you're online it will show anyways even if you've changed it from not showing "last seen". And it's only when you're on the whatsapp app not when you're on the phone.

Op here. I already turned off the "last seen".
My question is, what does 'online' mean. Does it mean that when I'm on my phone using a diff app, it will still be showing online in my whatsapp?

No, online means you're on whatsapp so it only shows if you're on the whatsapp app.

It means you're using Whatsapp. Won't show of you're just doing something else on your phone.
Unfortunately, no way to turn it off. I hate it too.
