Dh is staying by a friend of mine in another city for a week, whom he's never met, because he is visiting a friend in that city who is not frum. We are in kollel, but he wants to be generous - what's an appropriate amount and a good gift? Thanks!

I'd give a small hostess gift on arrival -- flowers, wine, a wooden box of tea, something like that.
Before leaving, a gift certificate to a local restaurant.
