Hi everyone! I have an 11 yr old daughter who has been having trouble staying asleep. She wakes up at night and can't fall asleep for hours. She has been taking 2 mg of melatonin for a while, but it doesn't help because it wears off by the time she wakes up.
Someone suggested giving Benadryl, but I am hesitant to do it, although will try if I have to.
Can you guys share any advice or experience you may have with this? We will definitely try exercise, no caffeine, no cell phone use (she reads on it) in the hours before bedtime - but need other ideas on what we can do once she is up and can't fall back asleep....
Thanks in advance!

I would stop with the melatonin. I've read that it could cause your body to stop producing it on its own (among many other issues).
And please do not give her benadryl. It's literally drugging your child.
Unless there's a medical issue, her body should naturally get sleepy and stay asleep.
When she wakes up at night don't let her come out of the dark. She should go to sleep at the same time every night and stay in her bed in the dark and wake up at her regular time every day even if she was up half the night.
After a while, her body should adjust to the schedule and sleep

I've read that it could be adrenal fatigue.

Is she an anxious type? My 11 YO DD sometimes has anxiety related sleep issues.
