Ok so I was always under the impression that if you only had one oven you just could not cook meat and dairy in it at the same time. I just found out you have to wait 24 hours between cooking the 2 in the oven. Have I been eating treif all this time?........

Do you cover the stuff that you put in the oven? Do you cook liquidy foods?
If you always cover milchig foods, or vice versa, you're probably fine.
I would definitely call a Rabbi.

I believe you have to kosher the oven first, especially if you're planning on baking something uncovered, then wait 24 hours to use.

not everybody has a self-clean oven ... and people still do this ... only with a certain period of non use ... these days it's so easy to self clean or have dif oven ... or just have a small milky oven for ease ... but then if you want to bake parve you still have same issue ...

There are soooo many opinions on this issue (ranging from never to being allowed to sometimes cook milk and meat at the same time) and so much of it depends on various circumstances--- ask your rabbi!
