"Aramaic for treasure or incense". That's what I found...

Also in YIddish it is used as a short form of Polish Simelia.

Wasn't it the Rebbetzin of Rav Moshe Feinstein zt''l whose name was Sima?

I think "Sima" comes from or is a nickname of "Simcha". "Simcha" is both a girls and a boys name.

Reb Ahron Kotlers Rebbitzens name was Chana Perel, I dont think that was Reb Moshes wifes name.

I've got to echo this = sima is a great name. (!!!)

Freidasima which is a combination of "freida" and "sima" is actually as someone on this post wrote, originally "freida" = yiddish/german for happy, and "simcha" - hebrew for happy/celebration.

It's the same name, given as many are first one language and then the other. Only we are used to first having the hebrew usually (Zvi Hirsch, Menachem Mendel, et.) and not the yiddish, but in this case as in many women, it was done that way.

Yes, it's a real name, only not mine. As I once wrote here to someone who asked, Freidasima was my grandmother and one dd is "freida" so I am both freidasima and freida's ima!
