my friend told me that her doctor told her there was no reason not to get walmart brand formula, and that it was the exactly the same thing as regular, I bought some and on the back it compares the ingredients, it is completely equivalent to enfamil lipil with dha, and more than half the price, I was shocked and started buying it, if there is such an obvious difference in price and same quality why did it not become such a fad, is there something I dont know??

with kid #1 I only used enfamil, but looked longingly at the much cheaper kiirkland (costco) brand that did not then have a heksher.
with #2 I was so excited thswt kirkland had heksher, but then dd didn't do so well with dairy so we had to go with isomil...
with #3 we started iwth kirkland, she didn't seem to have a dairy prob and we were thrilled. Bought like 12 tings of the kirkland to tkae iwth us when we moved to Canada. Two weeks later, b/c of gthe change of wagter and whatever, she needed low iron formula, so we had to return it all. (roll eyes.)
In other words...Go FOR IT! Of course that is my opinion.

All of them need FDA approval.
There actually was a write up in the local magazine to save people money that they could buy it.
Formula name brands are just about marketing.

But there is no hechsher on the actual container - how do we know that it is really kosher?
FYI, R' Eidlitz told me specifically that infant formula needs a hechsher.

Of course it needs a hechsher.
I don't buy formula to know if there is a hechsher on the container or not; I assume that in some locations, the hechsher IS on the label and that's how people knew it was kosher. There usually are different packaging plants, and that might be why you don't see but others do.

Darn.
That means its not reliable in CA.
It's so much cheaper!
Do you think it's worth it to try to contact the OU? Maybe it's one of those things that is kosher just for some reason, no hechsher is on the container.
Or am I grasping for straws here?

Ask! For all you know the labels were printed a couple years ago, and they don't feel like printing out new ones if the only change was that they are under hashgacha now...the OU should know what plants are ok, or if all, or starting from what packing date, etc.
